Koda 16, it’s advertised as Koda 16, which means you can cook up to a 16-inch pie, but just because it’s a cook 16 inches doesn’t mean you always have to cook 16 inch pie.
You Have to Consider the space to work with
Anytime talking about Ooni Koda 12 vs 16, you can see one’s a lot bigger than the other, right off the bat, okay.
As soon as you put this one on here, you know since you’re so close to the back. You don’t have that much space to work with, and this super hot thing.
So as soon as you put your pizzas in here and your dough starts to rise since you’re so close, the flames going to come over and you’re in the catch fire pretty quickly. That’s the only thing that I found hard to work with.
But with a lot of practice, you’ll start to get a feel of it, and you’ll know when to start turning your pies, and I get it because this thing’s so small, and you know, it’s meant to be portable.
You know you don’t have so much space to work when they get so hot now your pies are in the catch fire pretty quickly.
Unlike the Koda 12, The Ooni Koda 16 has an impressive space to work in. Look how much more space I get to work within the manual.
It says this is the hottest spot right here. Because you have the L-shape burner, you know a heat source coming from two sides.
So again, see how much space you get to work with, pretty nice. So if you throw your pie in here, you know that It cooking pretty quick.

Burner and Temperature Control
There’s a big difference between the gas burners of these two ovens as well.
The Gas burner in the 12-inch pizza oven has just one burner at the back, which covers the whole of the back. It’s got a lovely flame that goes up and over your pizza and gives it a beautiful cook.
The 16-inch pizza oven has the same designed burner with that lovely wispy flame, but it’s L-shaped, so it goes around the two sides of your pizza oven.
It can cook your pizza faster, and you don’t have to rotate it as much because as your pizza goes in, the L-burner will cook half of the pizza when you rotate it.
So the L-shaped burner does heat the stone further to the front of the oven as well.
The 12-inch pizza oven is a lot smaller, so no issues is heating the stone with the 12 either, but I think that the 16 did need to have the burner coming to the front because it’s such a wide fronted oven, and they needed to get Some of that heat to the side of the oven.
So I think it’s a perfect design because it does cover the front area of the oven for the heat that you need to cook your pizza.
The smaller oven will heat up faster, but the 16-inch does a really good job of heating up. I would say between 15 minutes, and 25 minutes; that’s about the time these ovens take to heat up.
But the Koda 16 does an outstanding job because of the giant gas burner.

I find that your climate and how windy the day is affected heat-up times as well.
And make sure that you store your stone in a dry place rather than in a damp area because it will take longer to heat up.

The weight of the Koda 12 is very light. I can carry it easily under one arm without the stone in, and it’s super lightweight.

The legs fold up at the bottom, and you’re good to go other than you need a gas tank as well. Yeah, for the oven itself, it’s minimal.
Ooni Koda 16
With a 16-inch oven, it’s wider. The legs fold up underneath, it is bigger.
However, with the stone out, it is easy to carry. I mean, it’s a lot heavier than the Koda 12.
I never carry it with a stone in because it is super heavy.
I curry the stone separately, and when I do it like that, it’s okay. Both of these ovens are portable.
If I can carry it, it’s not too heavy. There is a limit, and it hasn’t reached that limit. So it’s for me, it’s a portable oven.
How about the structural materials of Ooni Koda 12 vs 16
The structure of the Two ovens is very similar, made with very similar materials.
This gray, it’s like silicone, complex plastic type, covering. I don’t know what it is, but it’s elementary to keep clean.
It doesn’t change color, and it keeps its looks. My Koda 12 oven structure still looks new after all this time.
And this oven, Koda 16 is the same, it looks nice, and it doesn’t change over the time.
The dial & burner
The dial is the same on the Ooni Koda 12 and the Koda 16.
Obviously, the burner is a different structure in the 16, but the dial itself is the same.
The front structure
The front structure of the oven looks the same at the top of the Ooni logo, with that band of different color.
The legs where they fold up are very similar. They both have three legs that fold underneath the oven.
The height inside the oven
My last review was on this one. One of the things that I spoke about on this one was that I had a side angle here if you look at it. Someone’s a lot more narrow.
It doesn’t give you that much height, as opposed to this guy, which is a good thing if you’ve got the height of this one compared to the height on this.
One flame is going to become up pretty high on the back, same as this one, and because this one is lower, your pieces are going to burn pretty quickly.
If you don’t know what you’re doing as opposed to this one, this height is enormous.
I know that is probably like orange juice. I’m more height a lot more space, and easy to work with, okay.
Space between the oven’s legs
One thing I’ve been getting asked a lot about is the space of these legs here, just because people want to know how big of a Koda they need to get.
Let’s take a look at Koda 12 here. I would say about thirteen and a half inches as opposed to the Koda 16 is looking at around 21 inches.
So if you’re looking for a table for Koda 16, I would say maybe 22 to 23 inches.

You know the bills are a lot better. The stones are a lot heavier, but if it’s a size thing you’re looking at and you don’t need something that big, then I recommend the regular Koda 12.

So which pizza oven out of these two is my favorite? I do have a choice, and it’s the Ooni Koda 16.
Before the Koda 16 came out, it used to be the Koda 12 was my favorite go-to pizza oven because it’s an all-year-round pizza oven. I can cook with it in the summer, in the winter.
Undercover, it’s so easy to set up to heat up cool down quicker than a wood-fired oven if it’s raining.
Because you don’t have embers keeping it heated up, and there’s no chimney.
You can cook under a cover outside, and how quick it is just to start up an ignite makes the Koda 16 now my go-to pizza oven, and it’s my favorite gas-fired pizza oven.

What sets it apart from the Koda 12, is not just the size. I tend to cook smaller pizza anyway, so it’s not because I cook larger pizza that I prefer the 16-inch pizza oven.
I like to maneuver my pizza around the oven, sometimes closer to the flames, sometimes away from it.
And it just gives me that extra space to cook in. It’s brighter in there; I can see exactly what’s going on with my crusts at the back.
I feel as if I’ve got more control using the Koda 16. Therefore, it’s a super pizza oven if you are new to pizza cooking.
Because you’ve got loads of room to maneuver yourself away from those flames if you feel your pizza is getting overcooked.

If you don’t have the budget for the 16, the 12 inches a super pizza oven.
I have said over the years how much I love it, and I still do. It does what you need to do. It cooks pizza so well, and you can cook inside it super fast.
I cook on a three-quarter flame on the dial because it is a mighty oven. But I do cook them whole in the 16 because I have a lot more room and control in there.
So both of these ovens make super pizza; they’re both excellent quality, the design, the build, the structure. I’ve never had any problems with either of them.
